Comparison Images for Twist 60 and Burnside 35 on Full Frame and Crop Sensor Cameras
Since I own both a crop sensor (Nikon d7000) and a full frame (Nikon d750) camera, per request of a fellow Lensbaby lens user I took some comparison photos. She wanted to decide if she should get the Twist or the Burnside lens for her camera. I didn’t do post-processing on the images to show how the lenses capture the subject naturally.
1. In the first comparison I photographed the subject from the closest distance possible, which was about 19 inches.
Full Frame at F2.5
Crop Sensor at 2.5
2. Next, you can compare the FF (1) to the CS (2), where I tried to match how much you see in the frame (not perfect, but close). I needed to move farther back with the CS camera from 19 inches to 36 inches. I’m guessing at around 30 inches I would have been closer to my matching goal.)
FF at 19 inches at F2.5
CS at 36 inches at F2.5
3. The following two images show the closest possible distance from the subject (at 6 inches) with the Burnside, at F2.8, vignette fully engaged:
Full Frame
Crop Sensor
4. The next two are with the Burnside again, and I tried to match how much we see in the frame. The FF image was taken from 13 inches, the CS one from 17 in.
FF from 13 in F2.8 Burnside
CS at 17 inches F2.8 Burnside
5. With the following two images you can compare the two lenses, first taken with the FF camera, then with a CS camera.
Full Frame / TWIST F2.5 (19 inches)
Full Frame / BURNSIDE F2.8 (13 inches)
Crop Sensor / TWIST F2.5 (36 inches) with full vignette
Crop Sensor / BURNSIDE F2.8 (17 inches) with full vignette
I wanted to have a few variables for this comparison and not confuse people with many settings. I hope this helps some.
That’s a great comparison. Now I just miss a mirrorless crop sensor with a booster adapter and how this will look like. Crop should bring the same photos with that adapter as the lens used on full frame.
With this comparison I am always happy to have full frame and I won’t change it as long as I can handle that heavy camera 🙂
Herzliche Grüße
Birgit
Thank you so much for this, it’s extremely helpful. Do you have a personal preference on which you prefer?
Although I’ve taken some very interesting pictures with the Twist 60, out of the two, I prefer the Burnside 35. I find it more versatile.
