In October of 2017 I did something I had not done before: I spent 6 days away from my family on a trip to Portland, Oregon. I chose this destination because I really miss seeing the Fall colors at our current Southern California location.

This trip was super fun! I did everything I love doing: walked in the city and hiked in the forests, listened to audiobooks on the buses and during walks, visited three museums, and of course, took over a thousand pictures. But, as soon as I got home, I had to jump back into the everyday life and somehow I didn’t spend time on culling and post-processing my images. This past week I was tidying up my portfolio, and I realized that in addition to my Hungary, Colorado and California pictures I also have images from Oregon that I could share with the world. This blog post is features a few of those images, but head over to the Oregon gallery to see the rest. You never know… you might even consider ordering a print to decorate your house or give it as a gift.

Since I live in an extremely dry area now, it was very unusual to stay somewhere where it rained and everything looked super lush. It was an amazing feeling to walk in foggy forests with trees dripping on me. I loved the green as much as I loved the fall colors. The moss covering the trees, rocks and even the fire hydrants were so picture perfect. It was humid, smelled very fresh and some of the mist among the giant trees lingered around for a while.

The following images were taken in Washington Park and in the forest surrounding Council Crest Park.

On the weekend I visited the Chinese and Japanese Gardens, as well as the Pittock Mansion. From the latter there was a gorgeous view of the city with Mount Hood in the background.

Due to the recent forest fires I wasn’t able to visit the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge, so I hopped over to the Washington side of the Columbia River and hiked to the Pool of Winds.

The next morning I witnessed a beautiful sunrise over Mount Hood.

On the way back to my hotel I drove over the steaming Willamette River which was unbelievably beautiful. I couldn’t stop to take pictures because I had to return the rental car, but I decided to come back the last morning to see if I found the same foggy, steaming conditions. Unfortunately, I didn’t. But it was still interesting to walk on the river shore early morning. This is where I said good bye to a wonderful city which I’m sure I will visit again.

Don’t forget to check out the other images from my Oregon trip!

A few tips from my trip:

I stayed at Shilo Inn Beaverton, in a suburb of Portland. Almost in front of the inn was a bus stop. For $5 you can purchase a day pass on the bus which is valid on all public transportation. Except for the Washington side-trip I only travelled on buses and on the tram.
