Since early spring I have been posting lots of wildflower images in my blog. After my last hike, where I learned the names of many of the flowers I decided, that I would make one more post showcasing the beautiful wildflowers we are lucky to experience this spring. I really hope that our winters will be as wet in the future as the last one was, and we’ll enjoy the flowers again in coming years.

Some of the photos I’ve already posted, others are new. I will label all of them this time. Please be warned: there are a lot of flower pictures in this post. 🙂

Let’s start with the California Poppy. This was one of the first flowers to bloom, and I still saw a few today.

This post is the continuation of yesterday’s post about our Bommer Canyon hike.

The hike we took was about 3-mile long loop on East Fork and Ridge Route paths. The panoramas will give you an idea of what the scenery looked like from different spots of the hike. (Click on images to open them larger in a new window.)

This next image was taken from Ridgeline Trail. In the background it covers (from left to right) West Irvine, Tustin and East Irvine (where we live).

On Saturday my husband and I took part in an event; we hiked in Bommer Canyon (Irvine) during its open access day. Once a month they open the otherwise gated trails for the public, and we can hike in the area without a docent.

We had the most perfect day for a hike; cloudy and not too hot either. We experienced some extraordinary views from different points of our hike. I will post scenery images tomorrow; today I wanted to show you wildflower pictures. We saw many kinds; some I recognized, others I still need to learn about. Here is a selection from the beautiful flowers:

We haven’t had rain for a while, and the beautiful wildflowers have started fading away. I met with someone today for a photography lesson by a wildflower field near our house, and took a few quick phone photos of them before they completely go away. It was a great blooming season for us in Southern California. Pretty soon these green and yellow hills will turn brown for the rest of the year.

Our family moved to Southern California in June of 2012. Since that time we only experienced the wilderness in shades of green decorated with blooming wildflowers once, two years ago. The only time this happens in the spring is when we get enough rain during the winter months. To my delight, it is happening again this spring, after a very wet winter.

I discovered a nearby area two years ago with beautiful California Poppies; last Sunday I visited the same area hoping to find similar poppy fields. I headed to the park early, I was there not long after sunrise; the park was pretty empty, I only saw one person in the parking area. I started hiking, but after a few short minutes I noticed something from the corner of my eyes. I stopped and turned my head to discover that a coyote was standing about 50-60 yards away from me.

After staring at each other for a few seconds I started walking on the path, but kept my eyes on her. She then moved, and I noticed that poor animal was limping. I really felt sorry for her and I knew that she wouldn’t be able to hurt me. She hopped away and I continued my hike to the poppy field.
